Svalbard snowmobiling
I went to Svalbard for my birthday. In the first day there, we did a snowmobile trip to the East Coast. Couldn't believe my eyes with the beauty of that place. I was buzzing on the run-up to this trip.
Svalbard's remoteness is so alluring. Imagine living in a place like that?
We ended up not being able to cover the entire East Coast route because the ice was thawing very fast, creating pools of slush in the tracks. To a point where we crossed a small body of water of 2 - 3 meters with the snowmobiles. The trick was getting as much speed as possible before crossing the water, and be careful not to hit whoever was in front of you.
We also met so many of the Svalbard Reindeers.
The weather was fairly warm for early May, -1C. Still, we had to wear thick snowmobile suits. I did ask to turn off the handlebar heating because it was too hot.
That was the first day in Svalbard. We did had to cancel snowmobiling for the rest of the trip because of the lack of ice.
