How to record?

I am struggling on how to record memories of my life. There are so many things that I would like to have registered, and more and more I feel trapped by companies to are exchanging my attention in ads exposure for memory keeping and connection with people that live away from me.

I have been using Instagram for far more than a decade and in so many ways it was the perfect application for me. I loved sharing visual thoughts in format of pictures, I loved seeing people's posts about their daily lives. But it is easy to see that the platform has not had its users best interest in mind when it introduce this shit ton of ads and post suggestions.

So I've been on and off with it for a while. In 2025, I stayed off of it for the whole of January and February. This year, I've been off since April, now being early June.

But it serves a purpose for me. It does allow me to post pictures mainly of my travels, and I love it for that. So yesterday, I created a post. For that, I of course had to install it again, and oh my god, since I installed it, I kept opening the app every few minutes. It was just disgusting how it gets you. Of course I was curious of who had seen or liked my post, what people wrote as comments, etc. But I felt disgusted of how much it affects me. So I uninstalled again and created the rule that I can open Instagram only in desktop to check comments and reply to people, but not on my phone.

I would like to have a more healthy space to save my memories digitally. My travels, my art attempts, maybe random thoughts. So I found Bear. I could not align more with the ethos behind it, so here I am. I hope I can keep up, registering my memories, not that they are any special for anyone else, but they are special for me. Let's see where this goes.
